Dynamics 365 in Copilot Cowork: 30 CRM skills for sales and service
On October 8, 2026, Microsoft released 30 pre-built CRM skills for Copilot Cowork, covering Dynamics 365 Sales, Customer Service, and Customer Insights. A salesperson or support agent now gives Copilot a task, and Cowork pulls the data from CRM, email, and meetings and proposes a result. It changes a CRM record only after a person confirms.
What Microsoft announced
The new skills work across three Copilot modes, which differ in purpose and availability.
- Cowork: generally available (GA). In-the-moment work. A user gives a multi-step task, and Cowork breaks it into steps, pulls data from the right systems, and delivers a result for the person to review.
- Code: via the Frontier program. Building reusable solutions and interactive apps on top of the same skills.
- Autopilot: private preview. Delegating recurring background workflows, currently with limits on automation and notifications.
The architecture has three layers. Dynamics 365 provides the data and business logic. MCP (Model Context Protocol) tools give agents access to CRM context and actions; there are already more than 180 of them across Sales, Customer Service, and Customer Insights. Skills sit on top and add guidance for completing a specific business task: working through a stalled deal, drafting a customer reply, or checking a forecast.
Skills for sales teams
Dynamics 365 Sales gets skills that cover the full deal cycle, from meeting prep to team-level forecasting. These are the ones that address the most common day-to-day pain for sellers and sales managers.
Meeting preparation and Post-meeting follow-up
Before a meeting, Cowork gathers account, opportunity, and activity context. Afterward, it drafts next steps and a follow-up email.
Deal catch-up and Stage advance readiness
Summarizes what changed in a deal and checks it against criteria to see whether it's ready for the next pipeline stage.
Competitive strategy
Analyzes competitive threats in a specific deal and suggests how to handle the customer's objections.
Business case composer and Deal desk
Builds a business case and proposal from customer data and helps with product and pricing configuration for complex deals.
Forecast rollup and Team pipeline review
Consolidates the team forecast and assesses pipeline health, deal velocity, and forecast accuracy.
CRM data hygiene and Reconcile my opportunity
Finds data quality issues in CRM and deal discrepancies that distort the forecast.
Some skills, such as Executive deal review, Team activity coaching, and Segment analysis, are built for managers. They prepare summaries of critical deals and give coaching recommendations based on the team's actual activity.
What it looks like in a real deal
Microsoft's own example: in a competitive deal, a seller combines three skills. Competitive strategy addresses the customer's requirements and objections, Business case composer builds the investment case, and Deal desk prepares product and pricing configurations. That used to be a day of work across five tabs, an email thread, and a spreadsheet. Now it's one request in Cowork plus a review of the result.
Skills for customer service
For Dynamics 365 Customer Service, Microsoft released skills that cover a case from triage to the customer reply.
- Case triage sorts and prioritizes incoming cases.
- Customer brief and Case preparation brief give a one-screen summary: customer, product, history, prior cases.
- Answer research finds relevant guidance and knowledge base articles.
- Draft customer reply prepares a response based on what it found. The agent reviews it before sending.
- Value metrics calculates service value metrics for the customer.
A typical Cowork request: "Find my cases that have been open more than 5 days with no customer reply, and diagnose each one." Or: "Write an escalation summary for case #12345: what's been tried, what's known, and what the customer expects." For the second request, Cowork returns a structured summary with recommended next steps for the next owner.
People stay in control
Microsoft stresses one principle above all: Cowork doesn't take consequential actions on its own. It asks for confirmation before updating a record, sending an email, or creating a task. In addition:
- skills operate within the Dynamics 365 and Microsoft 365 permissions already in place, so a seller can't see anything through Copilot that they can't see in CRM;
- AI recommendations, user approvals, and actual system changes are kept separate;
- all activity is auditable end to end.

What you need to get started
- For sales skills: a Dynamics 365 Sales Enterprise or Sales Premium license, plus a license that gives access to Microsoft Copilot. A few skills (such as Business case composer, Competitive strategy, and Meeting preparation) also work without a CRM license through the Sales for Cowork plugin, but only with uploaded data, not Dynamics 365.
- For service skills: a Dynamics 365 Customer Service license, access to Cowork, and permissions on the right environment and records.
- Technical setup: the Dataverse MCP server must be enabled in the environment, and the Sales or Service app installed for the organization. Users then turn on the plugin under Customize in Cowork and pick a Dynamics 365 environment.
Cowork is billed by usage
Microsoft is explicit: Cowork needs a license for access but is billed on actual usage through Copilot Credits. Cost depends on the prompt, task duration, and model. As a reminder, for new Microsoft 365 Copilot Business licenses in CSP, usage-based billing turns on by default from December 1, 2026, with a limit of 4,000 Credits per user per month. Details are in our article on the new usage-based billing date.
Sales Development Agent and CRM in Teams
Alongside the skills, Microsoft is pushing two more scenarios. Both are still in preview.
- Sales Development Agent automates prospect research, qualification, and personalized outreach through Microsoft Teams. The agent gets its own identity, mailbox, and Teams account, and it's available through the Frontier program. According to Microsoft (MC1492151), the agent moves to usage-based billing through Copilot Credits on November 16, 2026, so set up spending policies before then.
- Dynamics 365 CRM in Teams: Channel Agent brings CRM data into the Teams channels where teams discuss deals and cases.
Why results depend on your CRM data
Cowork skills are only as useful as the data in Dynamics 365. If deal stages are updated once a month, contacts are duplicated, and activities aren't logged, Pipeline prioritizer and Forecast rollup will just reproduce the same mess faster. That's why CRM data hygiene is on the list. We covered how to clean up data before rolling out AI in CRM data quality and Power BI.
The second important detail is business skills in Dataverse (in preview). Admins and sales managers can create their own skills that reflect the company's methodology: lead qualification criteria, stage-exit rules, business case requirements. This is where Microsoft's generic skills become a tool that follows your business rules instead of an averaged-out scenario.
How to prepare your company
Check your licenses
The full set of sales skills needs Sales Enterprise or Sales Premium; service skills need Customer Service. If you're on Sales Professional or another edition, weigh whether the new scenarios justify an upgrade.
Clean up your CRM data
Current deal stages, logged activities, no duplicate contacts. Without this, AI recommendations won't be accurate.
Pilot 2–3 skills with one team
For example, Meeting preparation, Deal catch-up, and Post-meeting follow-up for sales, or Customer brief and Draft customer reply for service. Within 3–4 weeks you'll know how much time it saves and how many Credits it uses.
Set spend policies before scaling
Cowork is billed by usage. Set limits and thresholds in the Microsoft 365 Admin Center before the whole department starts using the skills.
Encode your sales methodology in business skills
Qualification criteria, stage checklists, and discount rules stored in Dataverse make Copilot's answers match your actual process.

FAQ
What are CRM skills in Copilot Cowork?
They're pre-built instructions that let Copilot complete specific sales and service tasks on Dynamics 365 and Microsoft 365 data: deal analysis, meeting prep, forecasting, case triage, customer replies. On October 8, 2026, Microsoft released 30 of them for Sales, Customer Service, and Customer Insights.
Can Copilot change CRM records on its own?
No. Cowork asks the user to confirm before updating a record, sending an email, or creating a task. It also works only within the permissions already set in Dynamics 365 and Microsoft 365.
Which licenses do we need?
Sales skills need Dynamics 365 Sales Enterprise or Sales Premium plus a license with access to Microsoft Copilot. Service skills need a Dynamics 365 Customer Service license. Cowork usage is also billed through Copilot Credits.
Can we use the skills without Dynamics 365?
Partly. The Sales for Cowork plugin gives access to a few CRM-agnostic skills, such as Business case composer, Competitive strategy, and Meeting preparation, but they work with uploaded data, not your CRM.
How do Cowork, Code, and Autopilot differ?
Cowork (generally available) completes a task together with the user in the moment. Code (Frontier program) lets you build reusable solutions and apps on top of skills. Autopilot (private preview) is for delegating recurring background workflows.
